Over the last decade, I have spent a lot on military tactical gear, both for personal use as well as gifts to family and close friends who like to coarse it out in the out doors. And in all of that time, I only got one complaint. It was from a female cousin of mine. She’s got a slight frame and I purchased her a tactical pack that was a bit to massive for her. But other that, everybody had only praises for the gear I got them.

Here are three reasons explaining why rugged travelers like myself think that military gear are good for adventure trips.

As Hard As It Can Get
Basically anything that is built to army specifications has got to be quite tricky. I have an assortments of army backpacks and other gear like hydration systems and LED flashlights which have been with me for ages. And from the appearance of things, it seems like they will be with me for a very long time to come.

I have been on desert trips, a 3-week trek thru Borneo and a voyage thru the Amazon rain forest with my military gear. They have survived mudslides, countless typhoons, drops, skids and falls.

To tell you the truth, after a wash, they look in better shape than me after a long hard journey. You may find an occasional scratch here and there however it really takes rather a lot beating to finish up in a tear or breakage.

Intelligent Thought-out Designs
I also like the way military gear or military tactical gear is designed. Take for example a tactical back-pack. These backpacks are designed in such a manner that it maximizes space as well as improves accessibility. So you get plenty of different types of storage compartments. Outside compartments have the usual flaps or zippers. Within compartments have hard and soft separators, flaps, netting, loops and ties.

Most tactical backpacks have Pals webbing on the outside so that you can attach other gear or pouches to it. On the inside, some have built in areas for hydration system and even safety kits.

Lasts A Very Long Time
As I have mentioned earlier, military gear lasts a really long time. This is not really a good thing if you like getting new tactical gear after a few years. What I usually do is attempt to hire folk to join me on my journeys and I end up giving them one of my seasoned backpacks for nothing.

In summary,

• The gear is designed in such a way which maximizes space, allows you to have add-ons and improves access to certain quick-grab items
• Military gear may cost a bit more than conventional gear but it can certainly take a beating
• Well taken care of military tactical gear can last for years of hard use
